"Project xCloud" is now being tested at one of the data centers in Washington and Microsoft is confident enough that it will roll-out its service on a wide scale.
"Our goal with Project xCloud, it is to deliver a quality experience to all players, on all media, which remains consistent with the speed and high-fidelity experiences that players are experiencing and are waiting on their PCs and consoles." says Microsoft on its website.
Starting with trials next year, the "state-of-the-art global game-streaming technology will offer you the freedom to play on the device you want without being locked to a particular device".
This isn't a new thing for Xbox players as they've been able to stream their Xbox to their Windows 10 PCs for a while now, but this time it'll extend further than the PC.
We see in Microsoft's official unveiling video, games like Forza Horizon 4, Halo 5: Guardians and Cuphead running flawlessly streamed onto mobile phones and tablets and it looks incredible. "Our focus is on delivering an unbelievable added experience to existing Xbox players and on empowering developers to scale to hundreds of millions of new players across devices".
"We've architected a new customisable blade that can host the component parts of multiple Xbox One consoles, as well as the associated infrastructure supporting it". Project xCloud isn't available yet, but Microsoft will be sure to release it worldwide very soon.
Currently, this project is still being tested on some devices, connected via Bluetooth to an Xbox Wireless Controller, which also allow you to play via touch input. On this front, a new approach is being taken, with a game-specific touch input system that would provide the best possible response in a minimal footprint, so as to keep the option to play without a controller available and appealing. The tech is expected to hit public beta in 2019.
Back at E3, Microsoftannounced that not only was it preparing a next-gen console, but the company would also be hoping to tackle game streaming.
