Five million Americans were diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other dementia diseases in 2014, or about 1.6 percent of the population.

Hispanic Americans are expected to have the biggest increase due to population growth, but non-Hispanic whites still will have the most Alzheimer's cases, based on population numbers.

He said: 'There is a lot of fear and uncertainty about Alzheimer's disease.

The number of people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias will double by 2060, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Psychiatry department of ESIC Model hospital organised an awareness programme on Thursday for educating caregivers about Alzheimer's. Of people in that age group, African Americans have the highest prevalence of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias at 13.8%, followed by Hispanics at 12.2%, non-Hispanic whites at 10.3%, American Indian and Alaska Natives at 9.1%, and Asian and Pacific Islanders at 8.4%.

That's because there's still no cure for the brain disease that affects millions of people worldwide, but researchers hope we're getting closer.

If we are to make real progress towards addressing stigma and supporting those living with dementia, we need every government to develop awareness of and access to diagnosis for dementia.
