  • ST. LOUIS MO- AUGUST 07 The 7th hole sign is seen during a practice round prior to the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club

Oosthuizen, 35, finished second at the PGA Championship previous year.

The magazine reports that PGA staff members discovered Tuesday that their systems had been compromised when attempts to access files generated a message that the network had been penetrated and that any attempt to break the encryption could cause files to be lost.

Just before the start of the recent Professional Golf Association [PGA] Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, bad news seemed to be looming over the event.

Officials had reportedly yet to regain complete control of the servers as of Wednesday afternoon, but it's believed the PGA Championship will be unaffected by the hacking.

The hackers have stated their motive by providing a Bitcoin wallet address. Bitcoin wallets can't be traced to an individual or entity or used to identify suspects.

It's unclear if the hack has or will affect the PGA Championship.

The PGA of America has no intention of meeting any extortion demands, an anonymous source told Lynch. The PGA has brought in outside IT experts to handle the situation.
