Variety has the depressing news of Disney and Marvel's hard and upsetting decision. Earlier reports claimed that Feige had been pushing to get Gunn rehired, which had apparently occurred through "back channel conversations".
Horn previously released a statement in which he detailed the reasons for sacking the director, saying: "The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James" Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio's values, and we have severed our business relationship with him'. The decision came following a meeting between Gunn and studio chairman Alan Horn. Feige pushed for Gunn's reinstatement but will stand by the decision not to bring him back.
It must be noted that both Marvel and Disney declined to comment to Variety on the story, but the outlet seemed confident enough in their sources to proceed with the story. The publication reported that Gunn and his representatives from UTA had a meeting with studio executives that was "civil and professional".
