The decision to approve the flying of a giant blimp depicting Donald Trump as an angry, orange baby near Parliament has been defended by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

"Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent", the embassy said in a list of advised actions, asking Americans to "keep a low profile" and "be aware of your surroundings".

In this photo taken on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, a six-meter high cartoon baby blimp of U.S. President Donald Trump stands inflated during a practice session in Bingfield Park, north London.

May will host a black-tie dinner for Trump at the stately home that will be attended by senior ministers and about 100 business leaders, including the likes of Blackstone group, Blackrock, Diageo, McLaren and Arup.

The state visit has never actually been scheduled - there is fierce opposition to it in many quarters of Britain - and this trip is part of a working visit instead, meaning among things that Trump will overnight at Winfield House, the US ambassador's handsome residence near Regents Park rather than in Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle as a guest of the queen.

Asad Rehman, 51, one of the organizers of a massive protest planned for central London, said that among the motivations behind the protest was to show solidarity with Americans across the Atlantic who also oppose Trump.

Mr Trump cancelled a planned visit to open the newly relocated USA embassy in London at the beginning of the year, saying the move from Grosvenor Square in the prestigious Mayfair district of central London to an what he described as a "lousy location" at Nine Elms, south of the Thames, was a "bad deal".

Smaller demonstrations are also expected to be held across the United Kingdom including Devon, Dundee, Edinburgh, Belfast, Norwich, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool.

Mr Trump is the 12th sitting United States president to make such a trip and will spend time with the Queen and prime minister before flying to Scotland to spend the weekend at his golf resort.

Ahead of Mr Trump's visit, the Mrs May said: "Our trade and investment relationship is unrivalled, we are the largest investors in each other's economies and every day a million British people go to work for US companies in the UK and a million Americans go to work for UK companies in the US". "And I've spent the last eight months going all around the country, meeting people and getting their point of view of all kinds of people whether it's politicians or people working in factories.I don't feel that at all".

"I said "If the President is coming to town I'll call it the Trump Arms", he said.

The sad news for Trump Baby is that Trump himself apparently won't be spending much time in London itself and is unlikely to see his inflated, infantile likeness in person. When he leaves Britain on Sunday, after a trip to Scotland where he owns two golf courses, he heads to Helsinki for a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
