  • Stormy Daniels arrested in Ohio

The high-powered attorney claims the arrest was "part of a sting" based on a "puritan law" that says there is absolutely no touching in strip clubs in Columbus.

In Ohio, it is illegal for an employee who is "nude or seminude" at a sexually oriented business to be touched by a patron or to touch a patron, with the exception of an immediate family member. He said his client was "performing the same performance that she has conducted at over a hundred strip clubs around the country".

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, has said she had sex with President Donald Trump in 2006 when he was married, which Trump has denied.

Stormy Daniels, the adult entertainer who is suing President Trump, was arrested at an OH strip club for allegedly letting patrons touch her on stage, which is a violation of state law. "It reeks of desperation", his tweet said.

"This was a setup & politically motivated".

Avenatti says Daniels has received a misdemeanor and will be "released shortly". "We will fight all bogus charges", Stormy's lawyer Michael Avenatti tweeted.

A Columbus police spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Dailymail.com reached out to Sirens who refused to comment.

Daniels is scheduled to perform again at Sirens Thursday night, though it remains to be seen if she will do so.

The law, The Community Defense Act, prohibits adult entertainment - defined as nude or topless dancing - between midnight and 6am.

According to a report by the Columbus Dispatch last fall, instances of violations of the law are rare, with the local Franklin County Sheriff's Office telling the paper at the time that it had never been cited within their jurisdiction.

After denying knowledge of the payment, Trump admitted in May that his longtime lawyer, Cohen, was reimbursed through a monthly retainer for a $130,000 payment made to Daniels in 2016 to stop what Trump called "false and extortionist accusations" about a decade-old affair.
