A Chicago police officer is being investigated after video showed him ignoring a woman's pleas for help while a man berated her for wearing a Puerto Rico shirt.

The Cook County Forest Preserve officer can be seen in the video standing in the background, not moving closer as the man continued to come up to Irizzary.

Facebook A woman was attacked by this man at a park near Chicago because she was wearing a Puerto Rico flag shirt.

When additional officers arrived, the man was eventually arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

"You're not American, if you were American you wouldn't wear that". "The investigation is ongoing and the officer involved has been assigned to desk duty pending the outcome". She said today she spoke with Puerto Rico's governor about the incident. "You're not gonna change us, you know that?" he says, insinuating that she is an interloper. No, the world is not going to change the United States of America.

"Are you a citizen? He basically got in my face, damn near nearly touched me", Irizarry says in the video.

When the policeman didn't respond, Irizarry says, "Officer, I feel highly uncomfortable".

'If she's an American citizen, why is she wearing that s**t?' Trybus shouts.

"You should not be wearing that in the United States of America", the man can be heard saying to her on a video she posted on Facebook.

"I am appalled, shocked & disturbed by the officer's behavior", Rossello tweeted. "Please, officer", she says.

Then she says: "Officer, I'm renting, I paid for a permit for this area".

That's when the officer finally speaks up, telling the brother to "relax". "I am troubled by the response of the initial officer on the scene". "Can you please grab him?" to which he turns his head and walks in the opposite direction.

Mia Irizarry posted a video of the June 14 incident on Facebook and showed that she was wearing a shirt that looked like the Puerto Rican flag.

Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello saw the video and also condemned it.

'We will be looking into this incident as our offices in DC are in contact with local and state authorities, demanding that this officer be expelled from the police force, ' Rosello tweeted on Tuesday.

"We take such incidents seriously, and if the investigation confirms the officer did not take appropriate steps to ensure public safety, disciplinary action will follow". "The United States of America is a nation that was built and thrives on diversity".

'We can not allow those who do not understand America's greatness to terrorize people due to their background.
