May about how she should negotiate with the European Union but he didn't say what he'd advised.

Trump went as far as to suggest that a "soft" Brexit could endanger any unilateral trade deal reached between the United States and the U.K. "So if this was a strategy to get a better trade deal, he can't get one at this point", Brennan said. But at the Chequers news conference, Trump said he had been responding to the Sun's question about Johnson as a possible prime minister, adding: "He has been very nice to me".

He apparently told the paper: "If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the United Kingdom, so it will probably kill the deal". "This is an incredible opportunity for our two countries and we will seize it fully".

She maintained the government's Brexit agreement "delivers" on the referendum vote.

Khan said pro-Trump supporters would march on Saturday, although some were present on Friday, separated from the main demonstration by police.

Some lawmakers in her deeply divided Conservative Party have cast May's "business-friendly" Brexit plan as a betrayal that would leave Britain too close to the European Union and warned that she might face a leadership challenge.

Trump then appeared to contradict himself by saying "fortunately we tend to record stories now, so we have it for your enjoyment", adding "it's called fake news", although it isn't clear how an audio recording of his interview could be fake news. "I actually told Theresa May how to do it, but she didn't listen to me".

Towering over the queen, Mr Trump and the monarch shared a few interactions as they reviewed troops at the royal castle in Windsor.

He didn't elaborate. He said that May is "doing a terrific job". "She's a total professional because when I saw her this morning, I said: "I want to apologize, because I said such good things about you". Instead he cryptically said that she'd found his proposal "too brutal".

Ms May also glossed over the comments.

The Daily Mail uses Trump's wrecking-ball visit to attack Jeremy Corbyn. May during which he also described U.S. -Britain relations as "the highest level of special".

May was the first head of government to officially meet Trump as president, in January 2017. I think it takes a pretty shallow person to criticise it and many of these people are shallow.

"I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London", Trump said.

After Trump's interview was published, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the president "likes and respects Prime Minister May very much", adding that he had "never said anything bad about her". It was during that trip to Washington that she invited him to the UK.

At the end of his visit, he flies to Helsinki for talks with Russia's Putin where he said he would bring up the issue of nuclear disarmament.

He said: "I read reports where that won't be possible, but I believe after speaking with the prime minister's people and representatives and trade experts it will absolutely be possible".
