John Rees of the Stop the War group addressed the protesters, saying of Trump: "He's a wrecking ball for race relations, he's a wrecking ball for prosperity, he's a wrecking ball for women's rights, he's a wrecking ball for any peace and justice in this world and we have to stop him".

He described the United Kingdom as a "hot spot right now with a lot of resignations" and dismissed the prime minister's Chequers plan on the next stage of Brexit.

As US President Donald Trump landed in Britain on Thursday afternoon, protesters were in battle-preparation mode, with demonstrations planned for every stage of his visit.

President Donald Trump's visit to Britain includes a gala dinner, tea with the queen and lunch with the prime minster, but his itinerary will keep him out of central London on Friday, when large protests are planned.

Earlier today Trump gave an extraordinary press conference in Brussels after giving North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders a bruising over defence cash, where he wrote off protesters and said Theresa May's Brexit deal probably wasn't what Britons voted for.

The trip includes meetings with Prime Minister Theresa May, who has described the United States as Britain's strongest ally, and is determined to secure a trade deal after the country acts on Brexit and leaves the European Union in March 2019.

"I've been reading a lot about Brexit over the last couple of days and it seems to be turning a little bit differently where they're getting at least partially involved back with the European Union", he told reporters.

The 'Drag Protest Parade for the Trump UK visit' has been organised by a drag troupe from Manchester, who will be travelling down to London on Friday morning for the event.

He has also said he might speak to Boris Johnson, who quit as foreign secretary over May's plans.

Most of the protests will take place that day in central London, the US officials said, with some occurring the days before and after.

The exterior of The Trump Arms public house, formally named The Jameson, which has embraced the arrival of US President Donald Trump for a visit by changing its name and decorating its interior with Trump memorabilia, is seen in West London on July 12, 2018.

At the same time, Trump will be touring a defense site with May outside of London. "So I think that's the effect the balloon will have".

Later, Trump and his wife attended a black-tie dinner hosted by May at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill, before returning to Winfield for the night. "We have come to an agreement which absolutely delivers what people voted for", she said in a statement.

Downing Street insisted Mrs May welcomed Mr Trump's decision to "engage" with the Russian leader.

On Friday he will visit PM Theresa May at Chequers, set to be followed by a meeting with Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle.

May was the first head of government to officially meet Trump as president, in January 2017.
