  • Protestors march during the People's Vote demonstration

Rejecting claims the Government has failed to make adequate preparations for a no-deal Brexit, he told the paper: "There's lots going on, we haven't made it public for very simple reasons".

'They want this Government to fulfil the mandate of the people and deliver a full British Brexit'. Brexit is not inevitable.

The People's Vote campaign, which organized the march, argues that public opinion is turning against Brexit as the economic costs become clearer.

"Together we must stand up, demand our voices are heard, demand a people's vote so that future generations can hear us say we did our bit, we stood up and shouted for a country that's together, kinder, tolerant".

"A bad deal is bad enough. but the idea that people can seriously walk away with the havoc that that's going to create for most of our industries is deeply, deeply irresponsible".

Matthew Mann, originally from south Gloucestershire, who moved to the Netherlands in 2016 for work, said: "I'm here to show what a European looks like".

He told the BBC: 'The Prime Minister has always said nothing is agreed until everything is agreed and that no deal would be better than a bad deal, and I think it's essential as we enter the next phase of the negotiations that the European Union understands that and believes it'.

"The UK is still the number one destination in Europe for investment over the past year, whatever is being said domestically". 17 million voted for Brexit.

Under a blue sky, marchers set off from Pall Mall before passing May's Downing Street office - to the sound of boos - on their way to Westminster to listen to speeches by anti-Brexit MPs including Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable and Tory rebel Anna Soubry.

Protesters packed the main arteries of the capital, waving British, Irish and European flags and colourful banners to call for a "People's Vote" on the eventual deal in which Britain leaves the world's biggest trading bloc.

As yet there is no certainty about what the final deal could look like amid infighting in Prime Minister Theresa May's Conservative government as well as among some of its opponents about what they want from Britain's new trading ties with the European Union after it leaves in March next year.

International Trade Secretary Liam Fox said the United Kingdom was not "bluffing" about being prepared to walk away from talks with Brussels, and Brexit Secretary David Davis said there is "lots going on" to prepare in case negotiations collapse.

In an article published by The Sun today, foreign secretary Boris Johnson warned the PM against a "soft, yielding and infinitely long" Brexit. A paper setting out the U.K. government position on future relations, due to be published this month, has been delayed until July because the cabinet can not agree on a united stance.
