  • PS4 blocks Fortnite cross-play because of ‘money’ says ex Sony Online boss

Cross-platform issues are starting to be a bit of blotch on Sony's rep. If people embrace this kind of openness on other platforms it can mean that PS4 owners start eyeing up purchases on other consoles.

You'll be able to keep games you download much in the same way that PlayStation Plus titles become added to your collection.

It's something that's so obvious that it could nearly go without saying, but former Sony and Daybreak developer John Smedley has said that the reason for Sony blocking the ability to link your third party accounts or play cross-platform on PlayStation 4 is all about money.

Smedley recently took to Twitter to and talked a bit about the fact that if you used an Epic account to log-in to Fortnite on the PS4, you can't use the same Epic account on other systems. "Dumb reason, but there it is." he wrote. Sony is indeed suffering a major blow to its PR as of late, thanks to that decision. "With ... more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we've built a huge community of gamers who can play together on "Fortnite" and all online titles", it said in a statement. If it does indeed end up happening, this could certainly make PlayStation Now more of a viable competitor to Xbox Game Pass, and it's good news for Sony fans overall.

Just last week, Epic Games made its wildly popular and successful multiplayer sandbox survival shooter Fortnite available for Nintendo Switch, with many on the Big N's hybrid mobile console then discovering that trying to sign in on the Switch using a PS4-linked account with Epic Games forces players to make a new one.
