  • The HTC Exodus is a blockchain-powered smartphone

HTC is jumping on the cryptocurrency and blockchain bandwagons, going full-tilt with a smartphone that's powered by the blockchain. Exodus will support not only cryptocurrencies but also decentralised applications.

With APIs and a trusted hardware stack that includes the kernel and secure enclave, the phone will connect to various wallets.

"Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more", Chen said on the integration of blockchain applications with the phone's hardware.

Not only that, but the company also reportedly plans to create its own native blockchain network with all Exodus devices to act as nodes to facilitate crypto trading among users.

Honestly, I would find it extremely paradoxical if HTC didn't accept cryptocurrency for its blockchain-powered phone. As the company's "Decentralized Chief Officer", Chen notes users will own their "ID and data" right on the phone, instead of the cloud.

"We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months we'll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together". Similarly, there's no set release date beyond "by the end of the year".

Here's the first image of the handset, which will go on sale in October. Phil would oversee blockchain developments at HTC. Mobile apps of cryptocurrency exchanges are driving phone makers to adopt blockchain.

Of course, as TNW points out, these types of features can already be installed on basically any smartphone already on the market. It costs $1,000 and enables the use and storage of cryptocurrencies without incurring transaction fees.
