  • Facebook Suspends 200 Apps To Investigate Data Misuse

Zuckerburg stated on March 21, that Facebook would begin an investigation into the handling of user information.

According to Archibong, the investigation process is a two-stage one. Archibong revealed that the investigation was conducted in a two-part process.

The company was investigating all apps that had access to large amounts of data, before introducing changes in Facebook's policies in 2014 - which had restricted data access. Now it's announced it may have snagged up to 200 more potentially problematic apps - and it won't say what they are yet. Ime Archibong, Facebook's VP of product partnerships is quoted as saying: "There is a lot of work to be done to find all the apps that may have misused people's Facebook data". He said Facebook would notify users about such bans and make it possible for them to check whether their data was misused.

The Facebook apology tour continues: The company announced on Monday that it has found at least 200 other apps that had access to user data in the same way that the app behind the infamous Cambridge Analytica leak did. He also spoke with 44 senators and stated that Facebook did not do enough to prevent their users' data from falling into the wrong hands.

For Facebook Groups, any app that wants to access group data will now require approval not just from an administrator, but Facebook too.

The app had been operating for four years when, in April of this year, Facebook suspended it, the social network confirmed.

National Observer asked Facebook how numerous 200 apps were made by Canadian developers, or developed in Canada.

Communications firms Cambridge Analytica has offices in London, New York, Washington, as well as Brazil and Malaysia.

"This activity includes assessing users' call and text histories (including metadata, such as the names and number of persons contacted), the times of such contacts and the lengths of such contacts". Users began combing through the data held on them by Facebook and many grew concerned. In response to the data breach, Facebook has lost billions of dollars in market value. But apparently, per the scope of the investigation, thousands of apps could have used this tactic before that point. Apps requesting to see other data, such as the posts likes and photos, will need to be approved by Facebook.
