Cambridge Analytica ordered to hand over data on U.S. voter

  • The offices where Cambridge Analytica is based in central London

The info would include copies of the data held on him, where it came from, whom it was being shared with and how it was being used.

The ICO notice stems from David Carroll, an associate professor at Patterson School of Design in NY. A SAR lets people demand computer records and related info from companies holding, using or sharing personal data on them.

A British watchdog ordered Cambridge Analytica's data controller to turn over all information it's collected on American voters or face criminal prosecution. While the original data was deleted, Cambridge Analytica kept derivatives of that data.

Facebook is unarguably going through the most hard period in its history, but just how many people are shunning the platform following the Cambridge Analytica scandal?

"This should solve a lot of mysteries about what the company did with data and where it got it from", he told the Guardian newspaper. America's data-protection laws are less stringent than Britain's too, the representative added.

Carroll's test case opens the door for 240 million other US voters to request their data from the British-based data mining firm under British laws for data protection, the Guardian reported, since the company has claimed to have up to 7,000 data points on 240 million Americans.

His access to the Commissioner's jurisdiction arose because Carroll's data had been processed by Cambridge Analytica in the UK.

These questions went without an answer, with SCL Group rebutting that it had no obligation to hand over the data as the citizen is not from the United Kingdom or even based in the country.

While Cambridge Analytica has met its demise, there has been chatter of a new data firm founded by those in charge with Cambridge that will be known as Emerdata Limited.

The company has been in hot water since March when it was revealed that t had improperly obtained data on 87 million Facebook users.

The information was used in an attempt to support the election campaign of US President Donald Trump.

In recent weeks, the Mark Zuckerberg-led company has taken several steps to improve user privacy, most recently announcing a "Clear History " privacy tool.

Cambridge Analytica also released results of an investigation performed by Queen's Counsel Julian Malins, whom it had hired to determine if there were any truth to the allegations made against the company.

The ICO issued the order on Friday, giving the organisation 30 days to comply, saying it was a "criminal offence" if it went ignored.
