According to a report from MacRumors, Apple Retail Stores and Authorized Retailers were informed of the policy change on Friday through the company's internal portal.

The company will now fix swollen batteries for free. If you own the Apple Watch Series 1 or Series 3, unfortunately, you are not eligible to apply for free repairs. Like most lithium-ion battery packs, the pouches used to power Apple Watch are susceptible to swelling and expanding when punctured, overcharged, overheated or otherwise damaged.

The new fix program mirrors a warranty update for first-generation Apple Watch models implemented a year ago.

Apple this week initiated a new service program that grants free, out of warranty repairs to Apple Watch Series 2 owners whose device suffers from a swollen battery or refuses to turn on. What are your thoughts on Apple offering three-year of fix program for the Series 2 in 42mm size?

Since the Apple Watch's original release in 2015, nearly all of the device's personalization has been tied to the swappable wrist bands.

Repairs are limited to the 42mm Apple Watch Series 2 models, including Sport, Edition, Hermès, and Nike+ models.

Good news for Apple Watch Series 2 owners: Apple has revised its service policy, introducing a clause that entitles 42mm variants for a free fix. Naturally, the device must be inspected by Apple employees to confirm what is causing the issue. It is also important to note that the length of time for the service is three years from the time of purchase.
