Courtesy of iFixit, the 2018 sixth-generation iPad teardown is here, and Apple's newest tablet unsurprisingly received a poor repairability score.

The new iPad features the same NXP 8461A1 Touch ID chip found inside the last iPad model, as well as the same battery. One of the reasons why the $329 tablet offers support for the Apple Pencil is thanks to the Broadcom touchscreen controllers.

The teardown also shows that the LCD display repairs are easier on this iPad than the iPad Pro models because the screen is not laminated. While it may appear as a copy of the iPad 5 that was released previous year with better internals and Apple Pencil support, featuring the exact same price and giving more firepower in return while also being cheaper to fix are some of the perks you will readily see if you decide to make a purchase. However, this does not make the job of the fix expert any easier thanks to the abundant amount of adhesive that is being used. Highlights: ● Air-gapped digitizer panel-not as visually impressive as other recent iPads, but it's much cheaper to replace cracked glass ● Model number A1893. If the iPad had tabs, it would have gotten a much higher repairability score.

As in all iPads, a solid barrier of very strong adhesive bars the way to any repairs, and makes rework a sticky proposition.

The takeaway from all this is that the new iPad isn't going to be any easier to fix than prior generations, which were already borderline unrepairable.
