"Libby's problem was with the Justice Department".
Mr. Manafort was indicted in October for hiding that he was working for a Russian-backed Ukrainian party while lobbying in the United States; charges against him could put him away for the rest of his life.
Flynn, Manafort, Kushner and others now know that they don't have to worry about not answering truthfully special counsel Robert Mueller's questions because a Trump pardon will prevent them from spending any time in jail.
These included Natan Sharansky, an Israeli politician and former prisoner of the Soviet gulag; Henry Kissinger and Leonard Garment, the Nixon administration's secretary of state and special counsel, respectively; and Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and Douglas Feith, all former senior officials of the Bush administration and architects of the Iraq War.
The move was backed, though, by former members of the Bush administration.
He was involved in what is now known as the "Plame affair", in which the identity of Central Intelligence Agency agent Valerie Plame was leaked. Earlier in the day, amid reports that a pardon was planned, Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler of NY, ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, said the timing was "suspect".
One of the more gross miscarriages of justice of our modern age was rectified Friday when President Trump issued a full pardon to I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff convicted in 2007 of perjury and obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame case.
"I don't know Mr. Libby", Trump claimed in an statement, "but for years I've learned he has been dealt with unfairly".

In a statement later, Plame said Trump's comments were not based on the truth, noting that a jury heard the evidence and convicted him, and even Bush refused to pardon him. After the commutation, Libby paid a $250,000 fine, performed 400 hours of community service, and served two years of probation, according to the White House.
The book also makes a few digs at Trump's appearance, joking about the president's hand size and describing "bright white half-moons" under his eyes that he suggests came from tanning goggles.
It has nothing to do with Libby, and it has nothing to do with me. She said Trump told her Libby was "a wonderful person who got screwed". But if the leak had caused no national security harm, why had Fitzgerald continued the inquiry? As to Joe DiGenova and Victoria Toensing, I think they just demonstrate once again what comedians they are on the stage that is now Washington D.C. He represents the repudiation of everything that my generation has worked to secure for our nation and its people.
In the op-ed, which was pointedly titled "What I Didn't Find in Africa", Wilson wrote, "I have little choice but to conclude that some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the Iraqi threat".
"That is simply false".
Libby was convicted of lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was sentenced to 30 months in prison in 2007. Both the President and the Vice President willingly testified themselves.
Former President Bush added to The Guardian: "President Bush is very pleased for Scooter and his family". It was the second high-profile pardon of Trump's tenure.
