  • MTV Video Music Awards to Return to Radio City Music Hall on August 20

The 2018 awards will hit Radio City Music Hall on August 20 after a year away in the Los Angeles sun.

The Video Music Awards will return to Radio City Music Hall for the 2018 ceremony, the network announced Tuesday. It will mark the 12th VMAs for Radio City, the most of any venue. The VMAs were also held at Radio City in 1994-1997, 2000, 2002-2003, 2006 and most recently 2009, so it's been nine years since the awards were last held at the iconic venue.

"New York City's creative energy has always fueled those who live and work here". This is where music, film, and art collide and where the Video Music Awards were born.

The VMAs, which will take place in NY for the 17th time, recognize top videos - but are more widely watched for eyebrow-raising pop culture moments than for the winners.

The show will bring in approximately $50 million in "economic benefits", Julie Menin, commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, estimated. "On behalf of the Madison Square Garden company, I am honored to welcome the VMAs back home", he said.

"The VMAs are unlike any other event - combining history-making music with exciting and unexpected moments that create an unforgettable experience, and Radio City, as the Showplace of the Nation, is the flawless backdrop for this celebration", he said in a statement to The News.
