  • Bryan Price is no longer the manager of the Cincinnati Reds. More

The team announced Thursday that Price will be replaced on an interim basis by bench coach Jim Riggleman on the heels of a 3-15 start.

The Reds removed Bryan Price from his managerial duties on Thursday morning. "In addition to these staff changes, we will continue to examine all aspects of Baseball Operations to ensure we are doing everything we can to improve". Danny Darwin will replace Jenkins in that role, while Pat Kelly will be elevated from Louisville (Triple-A) manager to bench coach.

The Reds say they will conduct a "thorough managerial search for a permanent replacement" later this year.

Price took over as Reds manager in 2014 from longtime manager Dusty Baker but the team has struggled during his tenure.

In over four seasons at the helm in Cincinnati, Price posted a record of 279-387 and failed to reach the playoffs.

In Bryan Price's four years as manager, the Reds went through a slow, but steady rebuilding process, as they traded away some of their best players, including the likes of Aroldis Chapman and Todd Frazier, and dealt with instability in their pitching rotation. He was hired as pitching coach before the 2010 season. The Reds have lost at least 94 games in each of the last three seasons while finishing last in the NL Central. He has also managed the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners. The Reds are the first team to fire its manager this season.
