Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday means they are enduring their worst run away from home in Premier League history.

Arsenal, though, have now lost five in a row on their travels in the top flight for the first time since December 1984 and are just two points above seventh-place Burnley in the table.

France striker Lacazette got Arsenal off to the ideal start when he guided Aubameyang's hooked ball across goal in at the far post for his 13th goal of the season with just 14 minutes on the clock.

It was little more than the visitors deserved with Mohamed Elneny, Alex Iwobi and Aubameyang causing all kinds of problems for Rafael Benitez's men, whose eagerness to take the game to the visitors was leaving them a little too open.

The Gunners have now conceded the second-most Premier League goals under Wenger since he took charge of the club, with the most being in the 2011-12 season when they leaked in 49, and with six matches still left to play, they could catch up to that unwanted statistic.

Ritchie said: "Forty points was the target at the start of the season and hopefully we've done enough now to secure our Premier League status".

Arsene Wenger has questioned the Premier League's decision to delay the implementation of video assistant referees after Arsenal were denied a penalty against Newcastle United.

Here's how Arsenal fans reacted to the defeat at St James' Park...

"It's a good opportunity for him and a good chance for me to see whether he's ready to play regularly at this level".

"But I felt overall today the fact we played on Thursday night, in the second half we couldn't raise the tempo and keep it up in the first half".

On their poor away form, Wenger added: "Of course it's a concern. It's very hard to swallow".

Wenger rotated heavily from the 2-2 draw at Moscow, which sent Arsenal through to the Europa League semifinals, with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Laurent Koscielny and Jack Wilshere all left at home. It has a subconscious weight in our minds.
