Cosby's chief accuser alleges drugging, assault

  • High-profile Hollywood lawyer Tom Mesereau will represent the 80-year-old TV star after the jury failed to reached a verdict in his first trial ten months ago. Mr Meserau is best known for winning an acquittal in Michael Jackson’s 2005 child molestation

Bill Cosby's defense lawyers are challenging model Janice Dickinson over her testimony that the comedian raped her in 1982. Cosby tracked her down to Bali, where she was modeling for an oil company calendar, and asked her to Lake Tahoe "to further talk about my career". He says it was consensual.

The Associated Press doesn't typically identify people who say they're victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Lublin has done.

She said she wanted Cosby to stop but couldn't say anything.

She testified that the assault began when she became incapacitated after accepting three small blue pills that Cosby said would help her relax.

In the new trial, a fresh jury of seven men and five women has been convened.

Bill Cosby's retrial is now underway in a Pennsylvania courtroom, where the comedian stands accused of drugging and molesting a woman at his home in 2004. Cosby has denied those charges and similar allegations made by other women. She said she's never paid Allred, hasn't been paid by the lawyer and hasn't been involved litigation against Cosby.

Tom Mesereau: "She had a history of financial problems until she hit the jackpot with Bill Cosby".

She also signed a confidentiality agreement in which she agreed not to again initiate criminal charges against the comedian. He settled the case for $3.4 million.

The judge says that Cosby's lawyers can bring it up.

Attorneys for Cosby and attorneys for several of the women who have accused him of sexual assault spoke to reporters on the steps of the suburban Philadelphia courthouse as the trial broke for lunch Friday.

Cosby's attorneys are expected to cross-examine Constand, including about the almost $3.4 million settlement she received.

She said the wine knocked her out, and Cosby then forced her to perform oral sex.

Constand says the pills instead made her black out.

Cosby lawyer Jaya Gupta told a judge Wednesday that Chelan Lasha's 2007 guilty plea for making a false report to Arizona law enforcement "bears on her veracity".

Lasha claimed that after taking the pill and the shot of liqueur, she was immediately immobilized. While we can't predict exactly how those movements might influence the jury, the atmosphere around the Cosby trial is certainly different now, as evidenced by a topless protestor outside the courtroom yesterday with "Women's Lives Matter" written on her body.

In 1984, Thomas was a 24-year-old aspiring actress when her agent arranged for Cosby to give her acting tips at a session in Reno, Nevada. The first trial ended in a mistrial last June after the jury was deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict. Mesereau referred to a key defense witness, Marguerite Jackson, who worked with Constand at Temple University. She invented the story of the assault as part of a scheme to sue him and profit in a civil settlement, they argued.

She told the jury she has nothing to gain financially now by wanting him locked up.

For this trial, prosecutors had the strategic advantage of putting Constand on the witness stand after a parade of other accusers who told jurors that Cosby had used the same tactics on them: preying on women who saw him as a mentor, debilitating them with pills or alcohol and then violating them when they were unable to fight back. The next thing she remembers is coming to, feeling Cosby behind her, and his fingers inside her vagina.

Thomas, who went public with her allegations in 2015, has teamed with other Cosby accusers to lobby for longer statutes of limitations for sex crimes, including a successful effort to double Colorado's to 20 years.

Bill Cosby has arrived for the fifth day of his sexual assault retrial where he's expected to come face to face with his primary accuser.

The prosecutio's first witness was Dr Barbara Ziv, a forensic psychiatrist who discussed some common misunderstandings - "rape myths" as she called them.

Bill Cosby's chief complainant is set to testify today at his sexual assault retrial in suburban Philadelphia, making for a climactic courtroom showdown after five other women told jurors the man once revered as America's Dad is a serial rapist who harmed them too.

She says Cosby then raped her, leaving her "very, very sore... in shock and humiliated".

Cosby spokesman Andrew Wyatt said Cosby's new defense team has researched Constand's testimony and statements from a year ago and found "even more inconsistencies".
