  • Veteran CB hits market, Giants release Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

The move will save the Giants $6.5 million ahead of Wednesday's free agency.

On Saturday, it was reported that the New York Giants had asked veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to take a "significant" pay cut and that if he refused, he would be released. Prior to his release, the Giants had asked Rodgers-Cromartie to take a pay cut if he was to stay on for next season, but he declined.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New York Giants informed Rodgers-Cromartie on Sunday morning that they were releasing him.

Garafolo added that while "no final decisions [have been] made", the two sides are "far apart at this point". Because Rodgers-Cromartie was released, he is free to sign with any team at any time.

Rodgers-Cromartie was a first-round draft pick out of Tennessee State by the Cardinals in 2008.

Rodgers-Cromartie last season was suspended in Week 6 for walking out on then-coach Ben McAdoo after being told he'd be inactive for that weekend's game in Denver, with the team at 0-5.

Giants sources later pumped the brakes on those reports, and it's now obvious as to why.

In his four seasons with the Giants, DRC recorded 160 tackles, 11 interceptions, 47 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks and a touchdown.

Like most of the Giants' players Rodgers-Cromartie didn't have a career year in 2017, but he was still solid.
