The Galaxy S8 received a price cut of RM200 shortly after a month of its sales launch a year ago, while this doesn't happen at retail stores, do expect retailers over at Lazada and 11street to undercut each other by lowering the prices of the Galaxy S9 or offering better free gifts.
As of now, Samsung Turkey has revealed planned release dates of Android Oreo to Galaxy Note 8 and some other premium models previously launched.
Via 9to5Google, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Samsung will once again skip the embedded fingerprint reader in the Galaxy Note 9 due to "technological difficulties".
He says the the feature now suffers from issues with screen protectors and various different environments affecting the success rate of the under-display fingerprint reader, thus Samsung's reasoning for removing the technology.
According to Kuo, whatever Samsung is trying to accomplish with this implementation isn't meeting their standards. Just because the Galaxy Note 9, which is slated to be unveiled in the third quarter of this year won't arrive with the in-display fingerprint sensor, it does not mean that the Galaxy S10 or Note 10 won't feature the same. He claims that it is "key for full-screen designs" and that facial recognition - as seen in the iPhone X - can not fully replace fingerprint scanning. He does not believe that the budding face unlock system can not replace the fingerprint recognition completely.
Right now, the Vivo Apex is the only phone with a fingerprint sensor in the display. If the former enters mass production, the contribution to the sales and profits will be pretty high for the suppliers.
In any case, as AppleInsider reports, despite Samsung's failure to implement in-display fingerprint scanning, Kuo believes the technology is important in enabling full-size displays for mobile devices, a trend that is unlikely to diminish any time soon; and he expects mass market adoption of the technology, though not until 2019. To their credit, the kind folks at Samsung did move the rear fingerprint sensor to a more sensible location.
As per the list rolled out by the company, Galaxy Note 8 will be the first to get the update on March 30, followed by Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy A7 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A3 (2017) in the days to come.
