  • José Mourinho attacks 'worst manager' De Boer for Rashford comments

After all the discussion of whether Rashford is fading away under Mourinho at Man United, the Special One threw him a start against Liverpool and he kindly paid him back with a brilliant brace to win the staunch rivalry.

As for Sevilla, manager Vincenzo Montella has made just one adjustment to the team which started the goalless draw in Spain last month.

The last few months have seen the Manchester-born academy product's remarkable rise plateau somewhat as he has had to make do with substitute appearances under Jose Mourinho's management.

"Rashford is without doubt one of the biggest talents in the Premier League and could play a big part in Russian Federation (at the World Cup) this summer".

Rashford has had to make do with limited first-team opportunities under Mourinho this season, particularly following Alexis Sanchez's arrival from Arsenal in January, but the England worldwide returned to the starting line-up on Saturday afternoon to score both goals in a 2-1 win over Liverpool. While it might be over-dramatic to suggest Rashford's growth has been stunted, signing the Chilean has certainly had an impact.

Across the Premier League and in Europe he has been on the pitch for nearly 1,700 minutes.

Rashford never lets Mourinho down and that counts in his favour.

Asked if it would be a failure if United were knocked out, Mourinho said: "A failure?"

We're starting to play more like a team and Rashford stepping up in Anthony Martial's absence is testament to that.

Since his breakthrough two years ago, Rashford has already scored crucial goals against Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and now Liverpool.

The United boss had an acerbic response to hand when he addressed a news conference ahead of Wednesday's (AEDT) UEFA Champions League showdown with Sevilla, seemingly holding De Boer responsible for Palace's slump extending to seven winless and scoreless matches as Roy Hodgson picked up the pieces at Selhurst Park.

Rashford desperately needed a rest prior to Sanchez's arrival. The boos that greeted his 70th-minute substitution for Marouane Fellaini on Saturday suggest United supporters agree. "Marcus is very young and needs games, but he is so talented and you want to see him playing every week". Mourinho is aware of such history surrounding United and as long as Rashford's performances remain at a high level, he will continue to get opportunities.
