  • Dad's punishment for 'bully' son, 10, divides opinion

Bryan Thornhill, from the USA state of Virginia, has filmed his 10-year-old son running to school in the rain after he was banned from the bus for "bullying".

Instead of driving his son to school, Bryan Thornhill chose to drive along as his son ran the mile on foot to school.

In a series of Facebook videos, the father advocated for "old school, simple parenting" while making his son run to school in the rain.

Apparently the punishment has been working as the strict father claims his son's behavior has "been much better", and that his 'teacher's have approved of his behavior this week'. "Therefore he has to now run to school, we're right about one mile from the school so all week he's got the experience of running".

But others questioned Thornhill's real motivations and wondered if the boy would get sick after running for so long in the rain.

In the Facebook video, Thornhill explained why he chose this form of punishment and gave "tough love" parenting advice to others, The Associated Press reported. He hasn't gotten in trouble at school this week, where last week he was just absolutely out of his mind. This type of parenting is just going to cause him to act out in a different way.

"If a kid jogging offends you, then get your a** off the couch; you probably need a lap or two", Thornhill said, nonplussed. Thornhill took down the original video, but another Facebook page re-posted it, and it's gathered more than 23 million views.

"News media is a great tool".

Needless to say, many parents applauded the man's efforts. "Love to see something positive come from it", he wrote.

In the Facebook video, Bryan Thornhill follows behind his son in his vehicle, noting that they are about a mile away at the start of the punishment. Teach your kids... Don't be a friend.

"Our children are our future".

Thornhill said he has two children. But Thornhill also added that even when his children are in trouble, he will always be there for them.
