Trump lashes out at FBI on Russian Federation investigation

  • A grand jury by special counsel Robert Mueller has indicted 13 Russians over US election meddling

These ads were only a small part of a vast Russian operation utilizing hackers and trolls that, as Mueller noted, was created to sway the election. In November, he said he believed the conclusion of U.S. intelligence agencies that there had been meddling. The Russians hoped to cast a shadow over the Clinton presidency.

A Facebook exec weighed in on the government's Russian Federation investigation this weekend, catching the attention of President Trump.

"These Russians engaged in a sinister and systematic attack on our political system. Russian Federation has tried to subvert the fundamentals of our democracy", Gowdy said. "The Russian 'hoax" was that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia - it never did!"

Those tweets follow the Justice Department's Friday announcement regarding indictments against Russian nationals and entities for meddling in United States elections.

He noted that the deeply partisan and divided U.S. Senate had voted 98 to two to renew sanctions against Russian Federation, calling the vote clear evidence that Moscow's campaign was not working. It involved creating internet postings in the names of Americans whose identities had been stolen; staging political rallies while posing as American political activists; and paying people in the promote or disparage candidates. As to the substance: the Russian campaign was certainly in favor of Trump.

"You may publish anything you want to". The charges allege that the Russians waged "information warfare" on the US political system to aid Trump's campaign.

The Department of Justice announced charges against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian organizations for allegedly attempting to interfere in the 2016 election.

Trump's failure to grapple with Russia's successful meddling in the election and inability to articulate a strategy to prevent it occurring again, has placed him at odds with the consensus among his administration's security officials.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, though, said the indictment shows Mr. Mueller's probe is back on track in its targeting of foreign enemies.

President Barack Obama in late 2016 defended his administration's response to the Russian meddling, also saying he had confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin that September, telling him to "cut it out".

Trump has never unequivocally accepted the US intelligence report and has denounced Mueller's probe as a "witch hunt". There was no Collusion with the Trump Campaign.

Meanwhile, Newsmax, a right-leaning website whose CEO Chris Ruddy has been described as a friend of Trump, ran a story that claimed Mueller's indictments shifted the focus from the FBI's mishandling of the Cruz tip.

The posts came after Mr Trump criticised the FBI for missing all the many signals that could have prevented the Florida school shooting - and linked the oversights to the Russian Federation investigation.

USA stocks had been up more than half a percent but lost almost all those gains after the indictment came out.

White House aides advised the president against golfing so soon after the attack, so Trump spent much of the holiday weekend watching cable television news and grousing to club members and advisers. He was making a point about the ongoing use of Facebook by Russian trolls, but that point wasn't clear to everyone.

The South Carolina Republican also said social media companies should be more proactive in identifying fake accounts.

The next day, Rob Goldman, VP of ads for Facebook, ironically took to Twitter to discuss the indictment.

The social media giant's data on the Russian-linked posts - reaching around HALF the USA voting-age population - far exceeded the company's previous disclosures. "It was an exceptionally close election", Coons said.

"The real issue now is how do we have a president of the United States not saying what everybody knows to be true?" And if he was still harboring dreams of firing Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, something many Republicans have warned against, doing so may be politically impossible. "I don't believe 90 percent of it", she said.

Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee that is investigating Russia's actions in the election.

"I have seen all of the Russian ads and I can say very definitively that swaying the election was *NOT* the main goal. We are quite divided as a nation." he wrote. "So, I got preoccupied with covering tracks together with colleagues". "And I'm being told that he is going to try to find out every aspect of what the Russians did".
