The students of the Allahabad University gave a tough time to police and more personnel clad in riot gear were pressed in to bring the protesters under control.

The Dalit man - Dilip Saroj who was pursuing law at the Allahabad University, was beaten to death with bricks, hockey stick and iron rod at a restaurant by a group of men on Friday. The murder was caught on mobile phone camera by a passerby.

The victim and his friends had come to the restaurant where they had an argument with a group of men who started assaulting them. He said, "We had gone for dinner at Kalika restaurant". The man who recorded the attack and another witness are heard saying in the video, "The police will turn up only after he is dead". After dinner, we were sitting on the stairs that lead to the restaurant. While Dilip's friends managed to escape, he was lynched.

The police have registered a First Information Report or FIR based on a complaint filed by Dilip's brother. We followed them to the restaurant to confront them which is when they started beating us. The main accused is identified as Vijay Shankar Singh.
