"A White jury came out with a verdict of not guilty for Gerald Stanley, who shot and killed my nephew". On Friday, an all-white jury found Stanley not guilty on all charges.

Mr. Boushie, a 22-year-old Cree man from Red Pheasant First Nation, was killed on August 9, 2016, when the auto in which he was a passenger drove on to Gerald Stanley's farm.

Baptiste said she believes it wasn't an accident. Her office issued a joint statement Saturday with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indigenous Nations that said there are many Indigenous mothers who share the pain of the Boushie family, when their children are lost, removed or jailed in Canada.

Peremptory challenges allow the Crown or defence to reject potential jurors without giving reasons. "As a country we can and must do better", Wilson-Raybould wrote on Twitter. "We're calling for an inquiry, we're calling for the government to act", Mr. Pratt said. "We commit to the spirit of love, we commit to the spirit of change and we commit to a spirit of growth".

The emotions were raw at demonstrations across Canada on Saturday to protest the acquittal of a white Saskatchewan farmer in the shooting death of a young Indigenous man.

At an Ottawa rally, the sound of people chanting a Cree honour song mixed with the noon bells of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.

Trudeau addressed the case Saturday at a news conference in Los Angeles, where he was wrapping up a trip to the U.S.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed his condolences to Boushie's family.

Some offered rides to those in need, encouraged people to arrive early to make posters, and others said they would bring extra winter clothing for people gathering. "The money is helping to take some burden off the family as they pursue justice daily", the page states.

"When you look at the sweep of events leading up to this, there were complaints from farmers that no one was solving the crimes against property that was being stolen and destroyed in Saskatchewan", Ouellette said.

Over in Saskatoon, about a thousand people also showed up to rally in front of the city's Court of Queen's Bench - including Boushie's cousins, Jade and Mylan Tootoosis, as well as the Boushie family's lawyer, Chris Murphy. Mr. Clark said this is a defining moment for this community and this country. "What I said (when he heard it) was it was unbelievable but very believable".

"What you're hearing today is solidarity".

Lisa Dewit said she came to the Victoria event with a message.

"Ultimately, Coco's death needs to have a goal", she said, using the family's nickname for Boushie.

Baptiste accused the justice system and the nation as a whole of being racist towards Indigenous people. "We can only imagine what Colten's family is going through". She then turned her attention to Gerald Stanley, the man who was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of her son Friday night.
