Big update on Daley Blind future and other deadline day news

  • Manchester United defender Daley Blind

Blind's opportunities this season have been mainly restricted to United's Champions League and domestic cup campaigns, having made just three starts in the Premier League.

Blind is now nursing an ankle injury, but the Daily Mail describes Roma as being "keen" to complete a deal before the January transfer window closes.

Sky Italia wrote yesterday that Manchester United had offered the wingback to Roma, and it looked like the 27-year-old was up for the move.

"Time is running out because it's the last day of the transfer window", the Dutchman told LaRoma24.

"I can confirm that Roma want him but Manchester United don't want to let him go on loan, only on a permanent basis in the summer".

Blind has been on the fringes of United's squad this term and Luke Shaw's form at left-back has put him even further down the pecking order. The price is good, but the operation is hard.

He was an immediate hit for United, with his intelligent play seeing him establish himself in a defensive midfield role.

Mourinho wants to keep this group.

Daley Blind has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, though 10 of those have come as part of squad rotation in cup competitions.

To much of a surprise here in the final days of the January transfer window, Roma and Manchester United are discussing a possible deal that would see Netherlands worldwide Daley Brind swap English football for Italian "calcio" in Rome.

Roma need someone to replace Emerson - and while Blind is not a natural like-for-like replacement, he is much more defensively solid than Aleksander Kolarov and his defensive discipline would appeal to Eusebio di Francesco.
