Demonstrators advocated for women's rights and equality, as much of the sentiment in this year's march overlapped with the #MeToo and Time's Up movements.

The choice was also to honor the victims of the mass shooting that killed 58 people last October, they said.

A second day of demonstrations in support of women's right got underway on Sunday, after protesters flooded the streets in cities across the world during the previous day to mark the anniversary of President 's inauguration.

"I see an erosion of democracy".

"We march, we run, we vote, we win", Pelosi said to applause.

"Thirteen women travel to England from Northern Ireland for an abortion every day". One of the scheduled main speakers at the Las Vegas rally is Alicia Garza, a founder of Black Lives Matter.

"I don't believe this administration is going to do anything good for women", she said, cited by Reuters.

Members of the group Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women of Seattle burned sage and chanted in front of Seattle's rainy march.

Dozens of volunteers fanned out looking to register people to vote among the thousands in attendance, as representatives of progressive Democratic candidates passed out literature. Democratic Idaho state Rep. Paulette Jordan, a member of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, drew an vast cheer when she told the crowd she was running to be not only Idaho's first female governor, but the first Native American woman to be governor in any state.

"This is Idaho's future".

Tammy Murphy, the wife of Democrat Phil Murphy, said the attack occurred while she was a sophomore at the University of Virginia.

More than 120,000 protesters turned out Saturday in Manhattan, while hundreds of thousands of protesters marched in other cities around the USA demanding equal rights in pay and health care, denouncing sexual harassment and encouraging women to run for office.

Many of Saturday's protesters said they felt propelled by a sense of momentum they could hardly have imagined during last year's marches.

A survivor of the mass shooting on October 1 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival also spoke to the crowd about her experience and the difficulties she has faced since the shooting that claimed 58 lives and affected hundreds more.

"2018 is going to be a great year to get more progressive people elected", said Julie Biel-Claussen, 59, executive director of the McHenry County Housing Authority in northwest IL, as she marched through a chilly Chicago morning.

Saturday's march made clear how a movement that began as a protest has evolved.
