  • PV Sindhu halts Tai Tzu Ying’s unbeaten streak in Premier Badminton League

Chennai Smashers, meanwhile, climbed to third spot with 12 points after having been at the bottom prior to the tie.

Chennai: Chennai Smashers rode P.V. Sindhu's brilliance to pip Ahmedabad Smash Masters 2-1 in a Premier Badminton League (PBL) clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Saturday. But the Smashers showed that they weren't demoralized by that unfortunate incident as they put up an all-round act for an astonishing 2-1 win over the high-flying Ahmedabad Smash Masters. She won the match in great fashion, beating Tai 15-11, 10-15, 15-12 to get the scores level at 1-1.

This was also Tai Tzu's first loss in this season.

The Taiwanese shuttler who came at the back of a stunning win over Saina Nehwal started from where she left and she was literally unplayable and deceived the Indian with her clever drops. She raced to an 8-5 lead and it looked like she would close the game without much of a competition from the Indian.

However, after the break Sindhu, heavily strapped on right thigh, looked a different player as she switched gears to eventually seize the momentum and go up in the match.

But then two of the best shuttlers were on the court, where crowd favourite PV Sindhu was playing Tai Tzu Ying.

After the breather, even though Sindhu started the proceeding winning two consecutive points, it was the World No 1 player who maintained her composure to finish the game to take the match into the decider.

In the third game, Sindhu took the charge early and aided by her opponent's unforced errors went into the breather 8-6.

After the change of ends, Tai Tzu kept herself in the contest as the duo were tied 12-12 at one stage. "She played very well and I am really happy to have won the match", Sindhu said after the match.

It was yet another great tie in PBL as both the teams put up an awesome show of badminton. In the men's doubles tie, which was Bengaluru's Trump match for the evening, the visitors' pair of Mathias Boe and Kim Sa Rang suffered their first loss of the season.
