Miami Among Cities Still in Running For Amazon's Second Headquarters

Amazon Inc. rejected several CT proposals for its second headquarters, announcing Thursday the selection of 20 jurisdictions as finalists in the online retailer's closely-watched competition. Those proposals sought to highlight each city's strengths, based on the wish list the company created to help it find the ideal spot for its new campus.

Amazon reviewed 238 proposals from across the U.S., Canada, and Mexicoto host HQ2, the company's second headquarters in North America.

Amazon said HQ2 would be an equal to its Seattle location.

"Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough - all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity", Holly Sullivan, of Amazon Public Policy, said in a statement. Miami was named one of those picked to move on to the next phase, joining cities that include Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and NY among others.

The closest southern city being considered is Nashville, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia.

The Seattle-based retailer announced 20 metropolitan areas remained in the running as the location for an office complex that may eventually employ 50,000 people. The victor city will be announced sometime this year, and while there is no specific release date, fans are expecting more information to be released in the near future. In the meantime, the top 20 cities represent the places wherein Amazon's HQ2 will be in an area with at least one million people and ready access to an global airport.
