Whistleblower: Flynn texts broached nuclear plan, sanctions

The change would allow a business venture Flynn had worked on - nuclear power plants - to be built with the former partner.

"General Michael Flynn - within minutes of Donald Trump being sworn in as president - was communicating directly with his former business colleagues about their plans to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East", the letter says. "She was sitting at an event, and they met [Alex] Cobson, who, of course, was a business associate of Gen. Flynn at one time, and he began to just talk to her about these things, and that's how she came to us".

Michael Flynn promised a former business partner that Obama-era sanctions against Russian Federation would be "ripped up" once the Trump administration assumed power, according to a whistleblower whose account was released Wednesday by congressional Democrats.

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", Copson reportedly told the whistleblower.

In the letter, Mr. Cummings appeared to try to anticipate an argument that Mr. Gowdy might make - that he can not investigate the whistle-blower's claims as long as Mr. Flynn was still under investigation by Mr. Mueller's team.

Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general and former high-ranking intelligence officer, pleaded guilty last week to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his discussions with the then-Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, about the sanctions that day after they were imposed. Copson was working with Flynn to promote a joint project with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East.

Cummings' initial letter detailed a whistleblower's account of claims allegedly made by Alex Copson, the managing partner of a company Flynn advised through 2016.

The letter says Flynn blamed Obama for having 'f***** everything up in my nuclear deal with the sanctions'.

With the clearance of Mueller's office, Cummings writes that he's now making the whistleblower's story public.

Mr Michael Conaway, who is leading the House Intelligence probe, declined to comment on Wednesday, saying he didn't yet know enough about the matter.

Cumming also noted the congressional probe into Hillary Clinton's role in an Obama-era Uranium One deal that Gowdy is spearheading- a probe that was recently announced after Republicans said they had found a new informant.

Mr. Gowdy and Mr. Cummings have a long history of clashing publicly over politically charged investigations.

Today, I am writing to inform you about a whistleblower who has come forward with evidence that Lt.

Mr Copson showed his phone with the text message to the whistle-blower, who saw that the time stamp of the message was 12:11, but didn't read the text.

Based on the witness's account, Mr Cummings requested that Mr Gowdy issue subpoenas to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly - as a custodian of White House records - Flynn, Michael Flynn Jr, the Flynn Intel Group, Mr Copson, and others, for e-mails, text messages and other documents related to Flynn's foreign contacts and payments.

Flynn didn't reveal his relationship with ACU Strategic Partners until August after leaving it off previous government forms.
