  • Sergio Garcia insists he isn't too far back to mount a charge for the Australian PGA Championship

"I was striking the ball well and thought I would be pretty aggressive all day, especially after making birdies on the first couple of holes", said Leishman, who had birdies on three of his first five holes.

Both players parred the first playoff hole and with Zunic's par putt at the next lipping out, Smith had a simple tap-in from about two metres to win.

The Australian was in sumptuous form at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast and it could have been even better had he not bogeyed the 17th and double-bogeyed the last.

"Bit of a grind out there today", Smith said at the trophy presentation.

Leishman, Australia's newly-crowned golfer of the year, produced seven birdies and an eagle in a seven-under par 65 as he looked to attack the Royal Pines course at every opportunity yesterday morning.

"If you make a few mistakes, you feel like you can make some birdies". Smith and Zunic finished locked on 18-under 270.

Both players ended the tournament on -18, one stroke ahead of Adam Bland in third, and they had to go through the high-pressure situation of a play-off to determine a victor.

Cameron Smith won the Australian PGA Championship on Sunday with a par on the second hole of a playoff with fellow Australian Jordan Zunic.

Cameron Smith, early leader Jordan Zunic and Rhein Gibson were tied for fourth at nine-under.

Bland threatened when he made a birdie on 16 to get to 17-under but the lefthander's tee shot on 17 went wide left.
