Kevin De Bruyne disappointed by Paul Pogba's absence from Manchester derby

  • Guardiola played down Pogba’s claim that he wants City’s players to get injured

Manchester City ace Kevin de Bruyne says they'll go to Manchester United to win on Sunday.

Old Trafford plays host to the most highly-anticipated clash of the season as Jose Mourinho's second-placed side attempt to make a dent on the eight-point cushion built by Pep Guardiola's runaway Premier League leaders this Sunday. "One city, two clubs".

"I think we are all playing football to play those kind of games and unfortunately for me, I won't play", he said. "I don't care. We just have to be focused on whatever we're doing".

"I don't believe in that s***", he told reporters.

Guardiola is expected to rest some members of his first-team squad with his side already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition as group winners but speaking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday's [6 December] clash, he revealed the decision to leave Silva back in Manchester was an enforced one. They spent a lot of money, like a lot of the big teams. To win those games you need to give everything.

City have won 14 of 15 Premier League this season, drawing the other, and all five Champions League group games.

Mourinho joked Arsenal's medical team had performed an "amazing" feat by turning Lacazette "from a no to a complete 90 minutes". Even if I'm not there, I'll be there watching the game, giving positive energy and, hopefully, we're going to win.

"He said that?" said Guardiola when asked about Pogba's comments. It's going to be very, very hard to catch them because of the confidence it will give them. They keep winning, they didn't lose one game and obviously, mentally, they're very strong.

While Silva may return in time for the derby, Pogba is definitely ruled out after a late challenge on Arsenal's Hector Bellerin saw him earn a straight red card last weekend.

"On the break, they were looking a little bit like Man United of old, weren't they".

"It looks very bad but the intention wasn't like that".

"Jesse is on fire now, Paul (Pogba) as well, it's a pity he got a red card".
