One of the students was found in a parking lot near the football field of Graham-Kapowsin High School shortly after 2.30pm on Tuesday.
A woman who claimed to be the mother of one of the victims wrote on Facebook that her son was shot four times and insisted that her son was not a gang member, 'but an innocent bystander along with the other boy that was shot'.
There was no immediate word on the students' conditions, but officials say both were taken to Tacoma General Hospital.
Authorities said they believe the shooters fled the scene after the shooting.
The Bethel School District announced that three other schools were placed on lockdown in addition to Graham-Kapowsin: Frontier Middle School, Nelson Elementary School and Graham Elementary School. Officers are still investigating.
The high school is located at 22100 108th Ave E.in Graham.
As parents rushed to a reunification site set up at Frontier Middle School, deputies conducted multiple security sweeps of the schools, to make sure the suspects had left the area. But still, until I had actual eyes on him, it was scary.
The high school was put in a lockdown that lasted for almost four hours before it was lifted at 6:15 p.m. and school buses began taking students home.
The school district also sent a letter home to families letting them know what had happened. The Bethel School District confirmed via a tweet the victims shot were indeed students from the school.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office appealed for the public's help in identifying the two wanted suspects and tweeted that Crime Stoppers was offering a reward for information.
