Putting it into context, Bezos made $2.4 billion on Friday, enough by itself to propel a person into Forbes top 1,000 richest people on the planet.
According to Bloomberg, Bezos's fortune jumped $2.4 billion to $100.3 billion early on November 24, following more than a two percent rise in shares on Black Friday.
Reaching the new landmark was shortlived, however.
This year alone, Bezos' fortune has increased by $32.6 billion - more than anyone else on the Bloomberg Billionaire Index. His net wealth went up $36.2 billion this year through to November 24-a 49.8 percent increase since the same period last year.
Commentators point out that Amazon's upswing followed Friday's broad market push that saw the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index hit another record at 2602, the first time it has closed above 2600.
His wealth shot into newfound stratospheres after share prices for the online retailer soared by 2pc on the back of optimism that the company's value would grow during the spending bonanza.
The 53-year-old Amazon founder bought The Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million and founded the aerospace company Blue Origin, a rival to Elon Musk's SpaceX, in 2000.
Online purchases for the day are up 18.4 percent over a year ago, according to data from Adobe Analytics, and investors are betting the company will take an outsized share of online spending over the gifting season.
Bezos officially earned the title in October when he surpassed Gates, a feat he also briefly accomplished in July. The company also recently had a soft launch of its Australian online store on November 23 in time for Black Friday sales.
